Crystal Palace are reportedly considering selling Wayne Hennessey, while Sunderland are keen on signing a goalkeeper.
Ward has struggled for game-time at Liverpool this season but proved his quality with Huddersfield last term, helping the Terriers secure promotion out of the second tier – so he would arguably be an excellent addition if the struggling Black Cats managed to pull off a deal.
However, with Liverpool unwilling to sanction a loan move in the summer, Coleman should perhaps consider other goalkeeper targets for the winter window in case the Reds are still less than keen to let Ward move away on a temporary basis.
One player who perhaps should also be on Coleman’s radar is Wayne Hennessey, whose future at Crystal Palace appears to be up in the air.
Hennessey was Coleman’s number one for much of his tenure with Wales, and boasts a huge amount of experience at Premier League and Championship level.
He has fallen out of favour at Selhurst Park lately, and The Sun on Sunday (print edition; 22nd October 2017; page 63) previously reported that the Eagles could consider selling the 30-year-old in January as his contract enters its final six months.
Given his contract situation, he may perhaps be available for a fee that fits into Sunderland’s budget and given that he has been out of favour, it may not be a surprise if the chance to be a number one again appeals to Hennessey – even if that is with a side that are in a relegation fight in the second tier.
Coleman oversaw a wonderful period in Wales’ recent history, and thus, Hennessey would be forgiven for being tempted by the opportunity to move to the Stadium of Light if it was offered to him when the winter window opens.
