Sunderland are said to be targeting a whole new team during the summer transfer window.
According to a report in the Peterborough Evening Telegraph, Marcus Maddison is keen for a Championship move this summer.
Maddison has just a year left on his contract at Peterborough, with the winger currently on the transfer list.
Although Posh are set to offer Maddison a new deal, it is widely expected that he will turn it down.
And the 24-year-old is said to be eyeing up a move to the division above, after impressing in League One.
Sunderland could now benefit from making a move for Maddison, as they look to put together a team capable of earning promotion from the second tier.
Sunderland are said to be hoping to sign an entirely new team, as they look to bounce straight back from relegation.
And Maddison could fit in well at the Stadium of Light.
The Durham-born attacker knows the North East well, after coming through Newcastle United’s academy, meaning it wouldn’t take him long to settle at the Stadium of Light.
And Maddison appears to have all the capabilities required to make the step up to the next level.
Sunderland for too long have looked at bringing in veterans, with little success, and signing Maddison would hint at an exciting change of policy – which will surely be required if the Black Cats do want to be promoted.
Sunderland were actually interested in signing Maddison back in 2016, as reported by HITC, but no move materialised.
Maddison has scored nine goals and claimed 17 assists in League One this term, and if he could repeat those figures in the level above, then he could prove to be a valuable addition for David Moyes’ side.
