Birmingham City boss Harry Redknapp has admitted to doubts over a deal to sign Ravel Morrison from Lazio, so should Aston Villa step in?
Sky Sports News reported that Birmingham had seen an initial loan bid for Morrison turned down by current side Lazio – for whom he has barely featured since leaving West Ham – but that the Blues remained in talks over a possible deal.
Birmingham boss Harry Redknapp has confirmed the Blues have offered to pay part of the former Manchester United starlet’s wages, but insists the club will not be drawn into paying huge sums for Morrison.
That has cast doubt over any potential deal, with Redknapp admitting ‘he could end up going back to Lazio’.
So should Steve Bruce – who like Redknapp loves to take a chance on mavericks as proved in the past with the likes of Hatem Ben Arfa – hijack the deal particularly in light of the news Jack Grealish is out for three months?
Bruce would back himself to get the best out of the troubled player who showed his immense talent for a short spell at West Ham before going off the rails once again.
And he also has the vastly experienced John Terry as his manager on the pitch and training field to help guide Morrison and get a hugely promising career back on track.
Morrison has made just four appearances for Lazio since leaving West Ham in 2015.
But at 24 he still has time to carve out a decent career for himself.
If Villa did steal Morrison from under their bitter rivals’ noses it would be the second time this summer after Bruce beat Redknapp to the signing of Terry.
