Asked about it following the 1-0 Premier League victory over Bournemouth on Saturday (October 14) the centre-back simply told the Sun: “No.”

Alderweireld signed a five-year deal with the North London club when he joined from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2015 and there have been no improvements on the terms in that since.

That is despite the fact the 28-year-old has greatly impressed during his time with Spurs and was named in the PFA team of the year in 2015/16.

Alderweireld’s agent Stijn Francis has been pushing for his client to be paid the same as the highest earners at the club – which includes Harry Kane, Jan Vertonghen and captain Hugo Lloris.

These talks have been made all the more pertinent because of interest in the Belgium international from London rivals Chelsea, who considered a move for the defender in August.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino has previously said he has no concerns about Alderweireld’s contract situation, but should Tottenham fans be starting to get a little concerned that no progress seems to have been made in the talks at all?
