Demarai Gray was superb for Leicester against Everton – should it convince Tottenham to renew their interest in January?

Demarai Gray put in a man-of-the-match performance for Leicester City as they won their first match under new manager Claude Puel by beating Everton 2-0 in the Premier League.

The 21-year-old was instrumental in the Foxes’ first goal at the King Power Stadium as he rode three challenges before feeding Riyad Mahrez to set up Jamie Vardy.

Gray them got on the scoresheet himself to seal all three points as the early signs suggest Puel may be prepared to give the winger the game time he desires – a problem which almost saw him leave the club over the summer, as reported by the Daily Mail.

However, should Tottenham Hotspur still be looking to tempt the England Under-21 international away from Leicester in the January transfer window, just as they were rumoured to be doing by the Mirror back in August?

Spurs were heavily linked with another attacking midfielder for much of the last window in the Toffees’ Ross Barkley – as outlined by the Evening Standard – but in the end no new player was signed in the position.

Yet arguably Gray would be the better option. Aside from the fact Barkley hasn’t played this season due to injury, the 23-year-old also operates in a similar style to players boss Mauricio Pochettino already has at the North London club.

In Gray they could potentially be signing a youngster who combines pace, skill and technique, with the ability to play from a wider position and with plenty of time to develop further.

It may have only been one match, but this weekend the Foxes starlet showed just what he is capable of and why he could yet be one of the finest talents in the English top tier.
