There are fresh rumours linking Liverpool with a move for Manuel Lanzini, with Argentine publication Diario Ole claiming Jurgen Klopp wants the West Ham United midfielder as a long-term replacement for Philippe Coutinho.

Klopp is yet to buy a replacement for Coutinho following his January departure to Barcelona, but should Tottenham Hotspur reignite their own interest in Lanzini and compete with the Reds for his signature?

Better attacking midfield option?

ESPN reported back in November that Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino was a “big admirer” of the 25-year-old and was considering a move for the Argentina international.

Speculation concerning Tottenham and Lanzini has since gone a little quiet, but talk of Pochettino signing a new attacking midfielder has not.

According to the Daily Mail, Crystal Palace ace Wilfried Zaha is a £40m option, while the London Evening Standard says Bordeaux’s Malcom remains a target.

Both players are naturally wingers, however, and with Heung-min Son having impressed there this season, Erik Lamela back from injury and Lucas Moura recently signed from Paris Saint-Germain, arguably that is not the area the North Londoners need to to target.

Instead Lanzini offers the option of either operating as a number ten, but also has the discipline to either play from the left flank or deeper in central midfield.
