Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly eyeing a summer move for Alfie Mawson after his impressive season in the Premier League.

According to a recent report from The Times, Tottenham are amongst the host of clubs who are currently having a look at Swansea stalwart Alfie Mawson – and Mauricio Pochettino’s side are plotting a bid for the centre-back in the summer.

Despite Carlos Carvalhal’s side spending much of the campaign around the bottom three in the Premier League, Mawson has caught the eye once again and has been rewarded for his fine form by being handed a call-up for England’s upcoming friendlies.

Unsurprisingly, the defender is attracting attention and it appears that the Swans will face a fight to keep hold of the 24-year-old at the end of the season.

The Times’ suggestion that Spurs are not the only side having a look at the former Barnsley ace hints that Pochettino should not expect an easy ride trying to get Mawson through the door, and he may be wondering what he could potentially do to give Tottenham an advantage in the race.

One option he should perhaps consider is suggesting to Swansea that they can have Kyle Walker-Peters as part of the deal that sees Mawson head to White Hart Lane.

The Sun reported back in January that the Swans wanted Walker-Peters on loan, so perhaps Tottenham should now leave the path clear for the academy graduate to seek a new challenge at the Liberty Stadium.

With Kieran Trippier and Serge Aurier ahead of the youngster in the pecking order, he would be forgiven for fearing what the future may hold for him if he stays with Spurs having barely featured this season despite being the man of the match in the opening day win over Newcastle.

It would be disappointing to lose Walker-Peters, but Pochettino should perhaps be tempted to try and use him as a makeweight in the deal if he is set to remain third choice next season, and winning the race for Mawson requires Spurs to think outside the box slightly.
