Should Tottenham Hotspur try and replace the linked-away Fernando Llorente with West Bromwich Albion’s Jay Rodriguez?

Ten points from safety and seven games left, it looks increasingly obvious that West Bromwich Albion will be a Championship side next season.

West Brom fans will argue that they’ve been a Championship side for most of the season in terms of standard and Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Bournemouth means that, barring another miraculous recovery, Albion are doomed.

If and when their relegation is confirmed, a number of players will be staying in the Premier League and Tottenham Hotspur should take a look at Jay Rodriguez.

The Baggies hitman previously played under Pochettino at Southampton, scoring 17 goals in the Argentine’s last season on the South Coast, before the next two years of his career were decimated by a knee ligament issue.

Rodriguez, a £12 million signing by former West Brom boss Tony Pulis last summer, has only managed five goals in 30 Premier League games this season, but Pochettino is a fan of his and in December told Sky Sports: “He’s a top player, a top man and we were happy to see him score against Bournemouth.”

Tottenham don’t need a prolific goalscorer because they have Harry Kane, but they do need a far better plan-b option than linked-away Fernando Llorente who, according to The Standard, is headed for an exit this summer, and on-loan Vincent Janssen, neither of whom has been a success.

Spurs wasted over £30 million on signing both and maybe it’s time that Pochettino brings in somebody who he can personally vouch for to cover Kane next season. It could make all the difference.
