Should Spurs consider ambitious move for Real Madrid's James Rodriguez?

A recent report in Spanish football outlet AS has suggested that Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane would be open to the departure of Colombian attacking midfielder James Rodriguez, so as to make way for young starlet Asensio, who has impressed for the Galacticos this season.

Rodriguez, who joined Real Madrid from AS Monaco 2014, has only played 1,316 minutes for the club this season, and the report suggests that there is a definite feeling that the Colombian will not be a Real Madrid player by the end of the summer. So just where will he be going?

A recent report in the Daily Express has suggested that Bayern Munich is currently the destination Rodriguez has in mind at the moment, as the Colombian hopes to link up with former manager Carlo Ancelotti; the man who brought him to Madrid. However, might a move to the Premier League tempt the midfielder?

It’s on this notion that Tottenham Hotspur should be ready to show their hand. The London club have come on leaps and bounds under Argentinian manager Mauricio Pochettino, and a world class signing such as James Rodriguez might be just what Spurs need to really push them on and make them regular title contenders every season.

Considering the immense class throughout the squads of clubs like Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur are perhaps understandably still considering to be just behind these clubs in terms of their likelihood to win the Premier League. However, a big signing like Rodriguez could change that, and as a player who can play anywhere behind the striker, the Colombian could be the perfect fit for this Tottenham Hotspur side.

But will they be prepared to pay what could be a massive fee? With the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea seemingly happy to, perhaps Spurs should be ready to take the plunge if they want to continuously compete with clubs of this ilk.
