Southampton should consider a move for wantaway Everton star.
The Saints sold Jose Fonte to West Ham United on Friday, and will surely now be looking to add an additional centre-back to their squad, as they look to finish strongly during the second half of their campaign.
An ideal option for Southampton, for the short-term at least, would be Everton’s Phil Jagielka, with Toffees boss Ronald Korean admitting that the 34-year-old could leave Goodison Park this month (the Mirror).
The long-serving Blues defender is unhappy at his lack of playing time, and a move to the south coast could be the ideal solution for all parties involved.

Jagielka moved to Everton from Sheffield United in the summer of 2007, for a fee of £4 million, and has since gone on to make 337 appearances for the Merseyside outfit.
He has been a model of consistency over the past decade, and a true professional in every sense of the word.
Although he is obviously past his prime in terms of his advancing years, he is still top-class performer, and his wealth of experience of playing at the highest level would most certainly help fill the void left behind by Fonte.

The centre-back’s contract with Everton expires in the summer of 2018, so he would still command a transfer fee, although the amount needed to prise him away from Goodison would surely not be too substantial, what with his desire to leave the club and the fact that he is 34 years of age.
And with the transfer window just eight days away from closing, this will certainly be one to keep an eye on.
