The Tottenham Hotspur forward would be a welcome addition for Southampton.
Southampton boss Ralph Hassenhüttl will be desperate to bolster his attacking ranks at St Mary’s, with the Guardian reporting that Manolo Gabbiadini has agreed a £10.8 million switch to Sampdoria, pending a medical.
With this in mind, the Saints should consider a move for soon-to-be out of contract Tottenham hitman Fernando Llorente.
The 33-year-old Spaniard joined Spurs from Swansea City in the summer of 2017, for around £12 million, but he has really struggled to establish himself in north London.
And perhaps St Mary’s might be the ideal place for him to reinvigorate his career.
Llorente plays mostly with his back to goal, and he would act as a fantastic focal point for Southampton to build their attacks from.
Southampton already have Danny Ings – someone who makes a living out of making unselfish runs into the channels, so the former Juventus and Athletic Bilbao hitman would be the ideal strike partner for the 26-year-old.
Llorente’s contract with Tottenham expires in the summer, so the Saints could surely tempt the north London outfit into selling by making an offer for the striker during this month’s transfer window.
Despite the 33-year-old’s struggles at Spurs, he is vastly experienced in playing at the very highest level, and that would only be a good thing for Hasenhüttl’s side.
And if the Austrian does manage to bring Llorente to St Mary’s, it could turn out to be a signing of real significance for Southampton.
