Southampton should join the race for Swansea City star.
The future of Gylfi Sigurdsson at the Liberty Stadium remains up in the air, with French media outlet L’Equipe claiming that he is a primary transfer target for West Ham United this month.
Should Southampton join the race for the 48-capped Iceland international?
The 27-year-old is one of the most consistent midfield performers in the Premier League, and it could be argued that his talents are being wasted in a Swansea side that are severely struggling at the moment.
He would be ideally suited to the way in which Southampton play, and could help transform them into a far more dangerous threat in an attacking sense.

Claude Puel’s men have been been on a worrying run of form of late, having lost four consecutive Premier League games, and are in desperate need of an injection of confidence.
The Frenchman has been steadfast in his use of at least two defence-minded midfielders so far this term, and it is no surprise that they are the league’s second lowest scorers.
They have lacked any kind of creativity from the middle of the park, which has proven to make them fairly easy to play against, and the addition of someone with Sigurdsson’s class could be just what Southampton need to turn their flagging season around.

He could be deployed in the number 10 role for the Saints just behind the striker, or would be equally as effective if used as part of a midfield two.
Whilst he will not come cheap, Southampton are a club who are not exactly short of cash, after selling many of their best players over the past three years for huge transfer fees.
And they should challenge the Hammers for the Icelandic star, if they are serious about remaining in contention for a place in the Europa League again.
