And with this in mind, the Austrian should consider making a move for West Brom hitman Jay Rodriguez, who is attracting attention from Premier League clubs Burnley and Bournemouth, according to the Express and Star.
The 29-year-old would be familiar with Southampton, having spent five years with the south coast club, racking up 35 goals in the process.
Rodriguez enjoyed a really fruitful campaign with West Brom this season, racking up 22 goals and six assists in 45 Championship appearances, and that kind of attacking output is exactly what Southampton need.
The Premier League is obviously a step up from the Championship, but the Baggies hitman still proved he has what it takes to be clinical in front of goal this term.
The Express and Star claims that Rodriguez was valued at a round £20 million last summer, but he may be let go for less this time around.
And Southampton should not hesitate to make a move for their former star.
