Should Souleymane Doukara feel aggrieved to have featured so sparingly for Leeds this month?

The Leeds United player has barely featured but have his replacements really done any better?

Souleymane Doukara celebrates Leeds United's second goal

It is fair to say that Leeds United attacker Souleymane Doukara has his critics, with some Whites fans never warming to the 25-year-old despite his upturn in form this season.

When Leeds signed Mo Barrow and Alfonso Pedraza on transfer deadline day, Doukara’s fate looked sealed.

After all, the promotion hopefuls have gone from having hardly any wingers last season to stockpiling them a year on.

But have Leeds’ alternative wide men and recent additions really done enough to justify Doukara’s omission from the last three starting line-ups?

Having been a regular starter in recent months, Doukara has seen his minutes diminish at an alarming rate, featuring for only 14 against Cardiff City, seven against Bristol City and four against Ipswich Town.

With so little time on the field it is no surprise the Senegalese player has been unable to impact those matches, but have the players picked ahead of him really done any better?

Stuart Dallas scored against Ipswich so on that occasion he certainly justified his inclusion, yet that is arguably the only worthwhile contribution of a Leeds winger in their last three matches.

With Hadi Sacko flattering to deceive, Kemar Roofe ineffective against Bristol City and Alfonso Pedraza clearly needing time to settle in new surroundings, none of them are the perfect option to be starting week in, week out right now.

In time Barrow will surely build up a run of starts yet all but his fiercest critics may admit that for now Doukara would be right to feel aggrieved.
