Could Son’s playing time at Tottenham Hotspur be reduced by Erik Lamela’s return?
The January transfer window won’t be long coming around and many Premier League sides will be looking to strengthen.
By the same token, a lot of teams will have to offload personnel before they can buy and you wonder whether a few Tottenham Hotspur players could be shipped out.
One such man who might well be growing disillusioned with his bit-part role among Mauricio Pochettino’s side is Son Heung-Min.
The South Korea attacker has started five Premier League and Champions League games for Tottenham but Erik Lamela’s return to first-team action could see the former Bayer Leverkusen man suffer reduced playing time as a result.
Son, a £22 million from Leverkusen in 2015, has been a fantastic impact player for Pochettino and while it’s a handy for Spurs, he could be forgiven for wanting more for himself than to be a squad player.
At 25, he still has plenty to offer a lot of teams – especially those in Germany, where his record was excellent – but it’s growing harder and harder to see him having a major role to play for the Lilywhites.
His performances this season – some have even come at left wing-back – have been mixed to say the least.
Tottenham fans won’t want to lose him, based on his effective cameo appearances, but the question is he happy with that role? Time will tell.
