Samba has been training with Aston Villa of late but may be of use to Sheffield Wednesday, who could be without all four of their recognised centre-backs this weekend.

Sheffield Wednesday could be without all four recognised centre-backs against Reading this weekend, with Vincent Sasso suspended and Glenn Loovens, Tom Lees and Sam Hutchinson all fighting to be fit.
With the emergency loan window abolished at the end of last season, the Owls’ only option should any of the above succumb to longer-term problems would be to recruit someone who is already a free agent – and there aren’t too many of those knocking about.
Brighton quietly recruited Norway international Vegard Forren last week, while Aston Villa have been umming and ahhing over whether or not to offer a contract to Christopher Samba, the former Blackburn Rovers and Queens Park Rangers human wardrobe.
And with little else out there, should Wednesday, too, turn their attention to Samba?

Despite being short of fitness, having left Greek side Panathinaikos in January, the Congolose has played a handful of games for Villa’s Under-23s in recent weeks and cannot be too far off. Besides, even an 75 per cent fit centre-back is surely better than one fully fit central midfielder (Jose Semedo) or left-back (Daniel Pudil) playing out of position?
Having been recommended to Villa boss Steve Bruce by close friend and Samba’s old gaffer, Sam Allardyce, Wednesday’s most recent victors are perhaps in pole position to take on the 32-year-old.
That said, should the Villans continue to dawdle, an approach from the Owls would perhaps be well received.
Would Samba be a good short-term addition for Sheffield Wednesday?
