Birmingham and Leeds target Aden Flint wants to leave Bristol City, so should Sheffield Wednesday take a closer look?
Bristol City manager Lee Johnson has admitted that Aden Flint has “had his head turned” following a double bid for both he and fellow defender Joe Bryan.
The BBC reports that the Robins received a joint £4m offer, believed to be from Birmingham City, for the duo – which Johnson described as “derisory”.
Aden Flint of Bristol City evades Tomer Hemed of Brighton and Hove Albion.
Clearly it has unsettled Flint, though, and while his boss says the Bristol club are financially sound and do not need to sell, keeping an unhappy player is not good for the squad as a whole.
The recent arrival of Nathan Baker at Ashton Gate from Aston Villa makes the 28-year-old’s departure all the more likely and according to the Bristol Post, along with Birmingham, Leeds United are also interested.
However, should Leeds’ Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday be keeping a closer eye on proceedings? The Sheffield Star reports that Carlos Carvalhal has made improving central defence his top priority and the club have been linked with former Arsenal star Johan Djourou.
Yet could Carvalhal upset both of the current interested parties in Flint by making a late swoop for the towering centre-back, with Tom Lees and Glenn Loovens the Portuguese’s only options in the position currently?
The only issue may be that the Wednesday manager has previously hinted to BBC Radio Sheffield that due to Financial Fair Play, the club may have to lean towards free signings unless they can free up funds through sales.
