If Sheffield United cannot sign Jamal Blackman should they consider Rangers star Wes Foderingham?
Wes Foderingham is on his way out of Rangers this summer, according to the Scottish Sun, with Hull City’s Allan McGregor set to return to Ibrox.
McGregor, who came through the ranks for Gers before leaving for Besiktas in 2012, is set to undergo a medical and if passed will sign a two-year deal.
At 36-years-old the veteran goalkeeper is not prepared to sit on the bench and Foderingham will be moved on to make space for him, with both Nottingham Forest and Sheffield Wednesday showing interest.
Who else should be keen?
Arguably Sheffield United should take on their rivals and Forest for the stopper’s signature should a deal for their first choice, Jamal Blackman, not come to fruition.
Blackman has impressed while on loan at the Blades from Chelsea this season and the print edition of the Mirror (March 20, p49) reported last month that the 24-year-old could be signed permanently this summer for a fee of £1.5m.
United could almost certainly afford this but may also face competition for the Blues ‘keeper and should at least have other options lined up and Foderingham could well be worth considering as an alternative.
