The Tottenham Hotspur full-back can utilise the space better than Kieran Trippier.
Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has an interesting choice on his hands with right-backs Kieran Trippier and Serge Aurier buth vying for selection, but the latter may have a big advantage when it comes to Spurs’ home games this season.
With Tottenham taking up temporary residence at Wembley, they should be utilising the space effectively, and Aurier’s pace makes him the ideal candidate to start more often than not.
The 24-year-old has been in and out of Tottenham’s side since his £23million summer move (BBC), sitting unused on the bench for the recent league games against Arsenal and West Bromwich Albion.
Spurs failed to win either of them and, while Aurier’s absence is obviously not the sole reason, Pochettino should have used the Ivorian at home against the Baggies, where the hosts needed more attacking intent to break down the visitors’ resilient back line.
Aurier has pace in abundance and, although some Tottenham fans have quickly branded him a liability, he could have found the space to the much-needed winner against West Brom.
There is a time and a place for Trippier, but on big pitches where pace can be vital, Aurier should be Tottenham’s go-to man.
