West Ham United have been linked with moves for several players this summer already, but should they be making a new deal for their midfielder the priority?

With the summer approaching quickly, West Ham United are readying themselves for a busy transfer window. A report in the London Evening Standard has already linked the Hammers with moves for Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere and Chelsea’s Michy Batshuayi, as Slaven Bilic prepares to properly strengthen his squad.

However, should West Ham United be making their current top players are secured down with new deals, before making moves for new players? A report in The Sun has suggested that the Hammers first order of business will be to tie down star performers Michail Antonio and Winston Reid this summer by offering them lucrative new deals.

Despite what has been a fairly disappointing season for the Hammers, players such as Winston Reid and Antonio have performed excellently for the club, and should be well rewarded for their loyalty. Reid especially, as the report from The Sun also suggests that Premier League clubs are circling the defender, preparing a potential move for him this summer.

After that, the Hammers will certainly need to strengthen their squad. After the loss of Dimitri Payet, the Hammers have been left devoid of that special spark of a player who can really make things happens, despite the best efforts of players like Antonio, Ayew and Lanzini.

With the Hammers hoping for a much better season next year, West Ham United fans will be keen to see the East Londoners cement themselves as a top ten side.

To do this, they have to keep hold of their best players, and won’t want to see another repeat of the Dimitri Payet saga which arguably derailed their season this year.
