Wilfried Zaha was reportedly ready to ignore Tottenham Hotspur’s interest and instead sign a new contract at Crystal Palace.

A recent report from the Guardian had suggested that Tottenham were set to miss out in their pursuit of Crystal Palace talisman Wilfried Zaha with the winger set to sign a new deal at Selhurst Park. But perhaps, the latest news coming from the Eagles leaves the door open for a potential deal to be resurrected.

Sky Sports has reported that Palace boss Sam Allardyce has told the club’s hierarchy that he wants to leave this summer after leading them to Premier League survival.

While it is not clear how much of an influence Allardyce’s presence had on Zaha reportedly deciding to ignore the chance to join Spurs, there can surely be no doubt that the former England boss’ departure will leave Zaha having to ask himself some serious questions about his future.

The 24-year-old was fantastic during Allardyce’s tenure, proving a vital player as they moved away from the relegation zone in the top flight – most notably, helping the Eagles beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and Arsenal last month with one goal and three assists coming across the two games.

However, the uncertainty now at Selhurst Park as Palace seemingly now begin to look for Allardyce’s replacement could perhaps leave Zaha tempted to consider whether staying put is any longer the best decision for his career.

Tottenham have challenged for the title in the last two seasons and can offer Champions League football next season, so they will undoubtedly be an extremely tempting option if they reenter the running for his signature before he signs a new deal, especially if Palace’s next appointment proves to be one that the wide-man is perhaps not completely sold on.
