Birmingham City boss Harry Redknapp has already played a part in the development of Chelsea striker Loic Remy, during their spell at Queens Park Rangers.
Loic Remey is watching his contract at Chelsea run-out, and his latest prospects for a move come from Turkish side Trabzonspor, according to fotomac.
Chelsea are holding out for a fee of €7m (£6.14m), according to the fotomac report. It would require a big change in spending tactics for Birmingham to reach that figure, looking at recent campaigns, but owner Paul Suen Cho Hung may be prepared to flex his muscles and make a statement signing for his high-profile boss.
While Remy’s wages would also have to be accounted for, Harry Redknapp is well aware of what Loic Remy can do in the Championship, since Redknapp signed him for Queens Park Rangers in January 2013 on a four-year contract, reports the BBC.
Chelsea’s Loic Remy
In 2013, Redknapp said of his young striker: “He’s always been a player I’ve admired. I’ve watched him for so many occasions throughout the last few years… He’s quick, can score goals and makes great runs. His movement is excellent. He’s got the potential to be a really outstanding striker.”
Since then, Remy has struggled to make much of an impression. A loan deal with Newcastle United, as reported by the BBC, did not end in a permanent move. Then Liverpool turned the player down after Remy failed a medial, said the Daily Mail.
Remy believed he had moved to one of the best clubs in the world when Chelsea came in for him, as the BBC reports. But he has not managed to break into the Chelsea team and was sent out on loan last season at Crystal Palace, where Sam Allardyce was not always impressed by him, according to the Daily Mirror.

So, regardless of whether the Blues could bring him to St Andrew’s, would Birmingham City be taking too much of a risk to sign Remy? His goalscoring record in England would certainly suggest it would be a gamble. Remy scored six times in 16 matches in his time at Queens Park Rangers and his best period was at Newcastle United in 2013-14, when he scored 14 goals in 27 appearances in the Premier League. The following season Remy managed nine goals for Chelsea in the top flight in 27 games.
What is known is that Harry Redknapp does not think Remy’s period at Chelsea has been good for the player, as he told the Evening Standard last year.
