Dallas joined Morton on loan from Rangers in the January window.
Steven Gerrard has confirmed in his Friday press conference that Jermain Defoe and Kyle Lafferty are doubts to face St. Johnstone on Saturday afternoon, with Alfredo Morelos already suspended – so did Andy Dallas make the right choice?
Defoe, 36, is suffering from a hamstring strain while Northern Ireland international Lafferty has a tight calf. Morelos is still banned after picking up a red card for his altercation with Aberdeen defender Scott McKenna.
England international Defoe and ex-Hearts man Lafferty are in training and will undergo fitness tests on Friday before Saturday’s game. It remains to be seen if they will be fit enough to play.
It leaves Rangers without any first-team strikers after Umar Sadiq cancelled his Rangers loan and the AS Roma flop joined Perugia instead. Eduardo Herrera is currently playing for Mexican side Club Necaxa.
Dallas joined Morton on loan in January until the end of the season, teaming up with former Rangers man Jonatan Johansson. He has since made two appearances for the Scottish Championship side.
The 19-year-old was on the verge of breaking into the senior side but following the signing of Defoe, he opted to leave the club and join Morton. Now, he will surely be ruing his decision.
The Scotland youth international was on the Rangers bench for the Scottish Premiership matches against Hamilton and HIbernian in December, but failed to make his senior debut.
If Dallas had remained at Ibrox, he surely would have been given the chance to shine as Rangers attacking spearhead, after scoring a hatful of goals for the Under-20 side.
So, Dallas will surely be regretting his decision to leave Ibrox last month as he would be in line for a start – had he remained.
