Glasgow Rangers defender James Tavernier is reportedly being eyed for a move away from Ibrox.

While most Rangers fans would suggest that they would not mind if none of the current Gers team remained at Ibrox beyond the end of the season after their Old Firm defeat, James Tavernier has arguably been one of the Light Blues’ best performers this term.
The right-back is often a threat going forward and has worn the captain’s armband regularly this season, so losing him in the summer may be a blow. But losing him appears to be a real possibility based on recent reports.

Replacing Tavernier will be a big ask for Rangers – Lee Hodson has arguably not performed anywhere near well enough to step into the void – but perhaps the Gers should seriously be open to letting the full-back head to the Liberty Stadium – as long as they get Oli McBurnie heading the other way.

The Scottish Sun has previously reported that Rangers were eyeing McBurnie in the January window, and given his clear love for the Gers, it would hardly be a surprise if a large section of the Ibrox faithful wanted the club to make a fresh move at the end of the season.
The 21-year-old has been sensational out on loan with Barnsley, scoring nine goals in 16 Championship appearances for the Tykes. His goals also earned him the club’s Player of the Season award despite the fact that he only arrived midway through the season.
If Swansea want to keep McBurnie, there may be little room to manoeuvre regarding a potential swap, but Rangers should certainly try their luck if the Premier League side come calling for Tavernier.
After Sunday’s result, losing Tavernier and gaining McBurnie may well be a hugely popular decision by the Gers hierarchy if there is any chance of getting something done.
