Glasgow Rangers defender Lee Hodson has been linked with a move away from Ibrox this summer.

According to a recent report from The Scottish Sun, Rangers defender Lee Hodson is now a loan target for Rotherham after an extremely underwhelming spell at Ibrox which has seen the Northern Ireland international barely feature for the Gers.

It does seem unlikely, if Hodson does leave, that many of the Light Blues faithful will shed many tears for his departure. He seems to have had a lot of critics amongst the fans and with Jon Flanagan arriving this summer, there seems to be little reason for Steven Gerrard to keep the full-back.

He may perhaps have little use for him at Ibrox next season, but perhaps Gerrard should look to see if the right-back may be able to help the Gers land a player that was linked with a move to the Scottish Premiership side as recently as April.

The Daily Mail reported a couple of months ago that the Gers were keen to sign midfielder Will Vaulks from the Millers after his superb season for the club that ultimately ended in promotion back to the Championship. The Mail’s report suggested that he has one year left on his contract so it would appear that Rotherham may potentially be in a precarious position regarding his future.

With several of Rangers’ midfield options sustaining long-term injuries over the last 12 months, and with Vaulks being a player that can play in defence if required, it seems to make a lot of sense for the Gers to confirm their recent interest with a bid.

And if Hodson can perhaps boost their hopes of getting something done by lowering the asking price with his involvement in a potential deal – Rotherham may have little interest in such a move, but Vaulks’ contract situation may make the situation difficult for them – then perhaps the Rangers fans will be a lot happier with the Northern Ireland international than they have tended to be during his time on the Gers’ books.
