Glasgow Rangers reportedly wish to bring Kyle Bartley back to Ibrox this summer.

Considering selling Tavernier appears to be a big risk from the Gers given what he has contributed during his time at Ibrox, and the report suggests that Gerrard would rather keep the defender in his ranks.

But with The Scottish Sun reporting that Swansea are one of the sides interested in luring Tavernier away this summer for the seven-figure fee, perhaps the Gers should be open to the idea of selling the man who wore the captain’s armband on several occasions last season – but only if they look to use the Swans’ Tavernier interest to land one of their own targets.

The Scottish Sun added that Swansea want £5 million for the centre-back, and that should perhaps tempt Rangers to see if there is scope for a potential swap deal to be discussed.
If Rangers are going to lose one of their key men this summer, they should undoubtedly look to bring one of their marquee targets in as part of the deal.
With Nikola Katic and Connor Goldson already through the door, signing Bartley would see centre-back become one of Rangers’ great strengths rather than their biggest weakness which it was arguably threatening to be at the end of last season with David Bates leaving.
Selling Tavernier should be a last resort for Rangers, but perhaps the Gers should not close the door entirely if Swansea are the ones to make a bid and their offer leaves an opportunity for a potential swap deal to be discussed.
