Former Glasgow Rangers winger Barrie McKay has not endured the best time since leaving Ibrox.

While it has been a gradual start to life at Ibrox, it appears that Rangers’ move to sign Jason Cummings on loan from Nottingham Forest was a very smart and shrewd one from the Scottish Premiership side with the striker showing real glimpses of quality since arriving.
The 22-year-old has now scored five goals in his opening 10 appearances for the Gers, including three in Sunday’s Scottish Cup quarter-final victory over Falkirk that allowed the former Hibernian ace to demonstrate his versatility as he played off the striker and proved to be hugely influential in the 4-1 win.

As reported by the Light Blues when they completed the deal, Rangers have the option to make the loan deal permanent in the summer and, based on current form, it would be a huge surprise if Graeme Murty did not sanction that move.
Given that Cummings’ move is threatening to be an overwhelming success, perhaps the Gers should look to the forward’s parent club once again this summer and look to rescue another youngster who is no stranger to the Scottish Premiership, and also turns out to be no stranger to Ibrox.

Barrie McKay would be forgiven for thinking that his Forest career may be over before it has really begun. The 23-year-old has not played for the club since January and has only featured twice since current boss Aitor Karanka arrived at the City Ground.
If he is available this summer, then Rangers should consider trying to bring McKay back on loan and perhaps try to negotiate a clause that would allow the Gers to re-sign the winger on a permanent basis like they have done with Cummings.
McKay has struggled lately, but he was threatening to be a brilliant signing for Forest, scoring five and contributing seven assists in the Championship. Meanwhile, Daniel Candeias is the Scottish Premiership’s most prolific provider of assists with eight this term.
Murty has shown that he can get the best out of his players, and if he is still in charge next season and a move for McKay is made, there seems little reason why he cannot be the manager to turn the wide-man into the exciting star that he threatened to be at times before leaving Ibrox.
