Glasgow Rangers have been linked with Steve McClaren as they search for their new manager at Ibrox.

McClaren has not managed since leaving Derby earlier this year, and is currently a coaching consultant at Maccabi Tel Aviv – but The Times recently suggested that he is on the Scottish Premiership side’s radar.

Should McClaren get the job, then perhaps he should look at targeting an international winger who he knows well and who grew up supporting Rangers during his first window at the helm.
Ikechi Anya played under McClaren during the former England boss’ second spell at Pride Park, and generally did well, contributing three assists in the Championship.

Anya has endured a difficult time with the Rams this term, making just one substitute appearance all season in the league – so it would hardly be a surprise if Gary Rowett had few qualms about letting the Scotland international leave if the right offer came in.
Though Daniel Candeias and Josh Windass have been extremely impressive lately, especially since Graeme Murty took caretaker charge, the Gers arguably need further depth on the wings, and Anya – who told The Scotsman in 2014 that he grew up a Rangers supporter – may be a great target to consider.
