Could Steven Gerrard’s influence help Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers bring a one-time Celtic target to the Scottish Premiership?
Steven Gerrard was appointed Rangers manager on Friday and now fans are anxiously waiting to see what sort of calibre of players the legendary midfielder can tempt to Ibrox.
Given his profile, Gerrard makes joining Rangers a far more attractive proposition than Graeme Murty did and one man who they should look at is a former Celtic target: Marko Grujic.
The Bristol Post reported in January that Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers was interested in signing the Serbian midfielder, who joined Liverpool for £5.1 million in the winter of 2016.
The 22-year-old is on loan at Cardiff in the Championship but a move to the Scottish Premiership might appeal to him this summer – especially given Gerrard’s presence.
Gerrard and Grujic’s time at Anfield did not overlap, but the 37-year-old is an iconic figure on Merseyside and the chance to play under one of the best midfielders of his generation must surely appeal to the former Red Star Belgrade starlet.
Signing him would also represent a major message by the Gers.
It would indicate that despite Celtic being a much better side at the moment, the Gerrard factor is a game-changer and both sides could chase the same targets, with equal hope of capturing them.
