The Rangers goalkeeper splits opinion amongst the club’s fanbase, and his future at Ibrox appears uncertain.

Signed from Swindon Town in the summer of 2015, Rangers goalkeeper Wes Foderingham is a figure who splits opinion at Ibrox. Largely applauded for his performances last season for the Gers during their push for promotion to the Scottish top flight, the English goalkeeper has had a mixed season this year.
At times, Foderingham has put in performances that could merit him the title as the best goalkeeper in the Scottish Premiership. A commanding voice amongst the Rangers back-line, Foderingham has become a big character at Ibrox
However, the former Swindon Town shot-stopper has also had a number of high-profile blunders this season, and at times looks prone to bouts of ill-confidence and nerves. No goalkeeper comes without mistakes, but in their proposed hunt for the Scottish Premiership title next season, Rangers can’t afford many.
And now, with the manager who brought Foderingham to Glasgow, Mark Warburton, having left Ibrox, could the Scottish giants be tempted to sell their goalkeeper this summer and bring in a new number one?
In a recent article by the Evening Times, Wes Foderingham was referred to as “one of the few sellable assets in the Ibrox squad.” This may well come into play this summer, with new manager Pedro Caixinha keen to boost his squad this summer as the looks to build a side that can properly challenge Celtic for the title next season.
A move away for Foderingham would also open to door for young keeper Jak Alnwick at Rangers. The former Newcastle United goalkeeper arrived at Ibrox in 2017 with a good reputation, and that move may well have been made in anticipation of Foderingham’s potential departure.

At just 26-years-old though, Wes Foderingham has plenty of time ahead of him in football, and many an opportunity to work through the kinks in his game.
The keeper was a largely impressive figure during Mark Warburton’s first season at Ibrox, and has still impressed many this season, gaining plaudits from much of the Scottish press.
With other areas in the Rangers squad in much more pressing need of improvement, would selling Wes Foderingham be an unnecessary gamble and a backwards step?

With money still acting as a huge stepping-block for Rangers, fans opinions on the goalkeeper may well not even come into play this summer. The realities of needing to raise funds for other areas may dominate, and if Foderingham fetches admirers in England, the club may well be forced to sell.
However, if the club do manage to keep hold of him, then Rangers fans can at least be assured that they have a young, exciting keeper who, despite his flaws, is making steady improvements, and could become a seriously important player at Ibrox in the years to come.
