Glasgow Rangers were interested in bringing Ross McCormack back to Ibrox last summer, so perhaps they should try their luck once again.

With Alfredo Morelos and Jason Cummings both struggling in front of goal currently, it would be little surprise if signing a new striker was near the top of Rangers’ summer plans – especially with Cummings only on loan at Ibrox for the time-being.

With Morelos and Ryan Hardie in the ranks, the Gers already have an exciting group of young marksmen, and signing Cummings on a permanent basis would add to that group further. But perhaps Mark Allen will be hoping to bolster their options by targeting a more experienced goalscorer who can generally be relied upon to contribute on a fairly regular basis.

It is of course easier said than done to find those players. But perhaps a recent report from The Telegraph should just give Rangers a bit of hope that finding that experienced goalscorer may not be an impossible task.

The Daily Mail reported on its live transfer blog last August (31/08; 10:57) that the Light Blues were keen on bringing Ross McCormack back to Ibrox as his miserable spell with Aston Villa continued.

The £12 million signing has barely featured since the first few months of his spell at Villa Park and has been out on loan with Nottingham Forest and Melbourne City, and The Telegraph is now reporting that he is set to be released at the end of the season.

Rangers would need McCormack to lower his wage demands, but the Gers should undoubtedly make a move for the striker at the end of the campaign in the hope that they can tempt him to return to the Scottish Premiership 12 years after his departure.

McCormack has not had the best time, but when he is on form, he is a lethal goalscorer. He scored 13 goals in 15 games in Australia so clearly has that clinical touch and that may make him the perfect option to add that experience that Rangers’ striker ranks undoubtedly need.
