Do Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers need Eduardo Herrera or does he represent deadwood that needs to be shifted?

Eduardo Herrera of Rangers scores his teams third goal during the Betfred League Cup Quarter Final at Firhill Stadium on September 19, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Rangers moved second in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday.

January signing Jason Cummings came off the bench to grab his first goal for Rangers in a 2-1 win over Ross County and Gers fans will be hoping that it’s the first of many.

But manager Graeme Murty has a system which allows for only one main striker and with Alfredo Morelos scoring five goals in his last eight Premiership outings, Cummings might have to settle for the bench at the moment.

With that in mind, you wonder how often Murty will need to turn to summer signing Eduardo Herrera and if he can, Murty should offload him before the transfer window shuts and use the money to strengthen more urgent areas of the squad.

Herrera cost the Ibrox club £1.5 million (Daily Record) last summer after joining in a double swoop with fellow Mexico international Carlos Pena.

Like his compatriot – who has since left Glasgow – Herrera’s stock is likely to still be pretty high back in his homeland and Murty should offer him to various Mexican clubs.

Let’s face it, the 29-year-old wasn’t even playing a great deal before Cummings arrived, with only two of his 19 Premiership appearances coming from the start, so logically it’s difficult to envisage Herrera being a big player for Rangers during the second half of the campaign.

There is only three days left in the transfer window but Murty has been cryptically suggesting for weeks that there is interest in his players, and Rangers fans should hope that Herrera – who has two goals in 21 games this season – is a wanted man because he probably isn’t one in Glasgow.
