The West Ham united striker would be an excellent addition to the Glasgow Rangers squad.

The Gers suffered arguably the most embarrassing defeat in their history last night, after being dumped out of the Europa League at the preliminary qualifying stages by Luxembourg part-times Progress Niederkorn.

The mood will understandably be rock-bottom at Ibrox over the course of the next month, as they prepare for their first league game of the new season away at Motherwell on August 5th.

One way of lifting the spirits at Rangers though, will be for Pedro Caixinha to make another signing, and the Portuguese should target a loan move for Hammers hitman Ashley Fletcher, who struggled for game-time at the London Stadium last term.

Premier League clubs Burnley and Watford are both considering moves for the 21-year-old, as reported right here on HITC Sport, but a move to join up with the Glasgow giants, and the opportunity to play in front of 50,000 fans every other week could prove difficult to resist.

Standing at 6ft 2in tall, Fletcher possesses fantastic aerial ability, and has the kind of physique required to succeed at Rangers, what with the robust nature of the Scottish Premiership.

Whilst he was not prolific by any means for West Ham last term, it could be argued that his lack of regular game-time hampered his development, and given a run of consistent first-team opportunities, he would surely stand a good chance of being a great asset for Caixinha’s side.

The Gers undoubtedly need more of a potent threat in forward areas, having become too reliant on 37-year-old Kenny Miller, and the Manchester United academy graduate could be just the man for the job.

A loan deal would be the most realistic outcome for Rangers, and his £3,500 per week wages should not be a stumbling block for the Glasgow giants.

And if Caixinha manages to reign Fletcher to Ibrox, it could turn out to be a signing of real significance.
