Glasgow Rangers should be looking to make a smart loan move for Middlesbrough’s Ashley Fletcher. He would be a good signing for the Ibrox club.

According to reports from The Sunday Sun (printed edition; 07/01/2018 –page 64), Middlesbrough striker Ashley Fletcher is facing an uncertain future at the club.

The 22-year-old joined Boro from West Ham United in the summer for a fee of around £6 million, as quoted by The Sun. However, he has failed to justify his price tag, and struggled to get regular games either under Garry Monk or Pulis.

Recently, Pulis has insisted that Fletcher may not suit his style of play, which puts further doubt on his long-term future at the Riverside club.

At the same time, Boro will not get the amount they are expecting, so a loan move is the most likely scenario.

Should Rangers step up and make a smart loan move for the former Manchester United player in January?

Fletcher may have struggled in the Championship, but he is still a highly talented player, and probably needs a change of scenario.

The Gers are looking to bolster their squad in the January transfer window, and the Ibrox club have already secured the signing of Sean Goss.

Rangers are third in the Scottish Premier League, and Greame Murty’s side will be looking to finish the season on a strong note, closing the gap with Celtic as much as possible.

Should Murty decide to bolster his strike options, he might consider taking a gamble on Fletcher. He could turn out to be a smart signing for the Gers.
