Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers should look at bringing him back to the Scottish Premiership.
Let’s face it, Rangers don’t need another central midfielder at the moment, but they might in the summer.
Sean Goss, for the most part, has been a very decent signing, but the 22-year-old is only on loan and QPR boss Ian Holloway suggested earlier this month that he would be certainly returning to Loftus Road this summer.
If and when that materialises, Rangers manager Graeme Murty – if he remains in charge – might need a replacement and the Gers could do a lot worse than James McArthur.
The Crystal Palace midfielder looks like he will be available on a free transfer this summer and the Ibrox side should seriously consider him.
Not only does the former Hamilton ace know all about the Premiership, but he grew up supporting the Ibrox club and, considering he’s free, would it really be a bad idea?
Greg Docherty looks the part following his arrival in January, but Rangers will have another shot at qualifying for the Europa League proper this summer and the experience of someone like McArthur – who played five games for Wigan in that competition – could go a long way to helping the Scots put that catastrophic Progres result behind them last time around.
Still only 30, McArthur, who has 32 caps for Scotland, might be a fading force in the Premier League, but he could still do a big job in the Scottish Premiership and given his ties to the club, he might just jump at the offer to come up.
