Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers need a new striker and could Elias Sorensen fit the bill?
Rangers boss Steven Gerrard dropped another hint that Umar Sadiq is heading out of Ibrox in January.
The Gers manager claimed on Tuesday that he only has two recognised strikers in the form of Alfredo Morelos and Kyle Lafferty.
It was not a slip of the tongue by Gerrard, who patently doesn’t view the Roma loanee as an option any longer.
The Ibrox side are going to need another striker in January, and should the 38-year-old look at someone who idolises his former team-mate?
On Tuesday, Elias Sorensen scored his 18th goal for Newcastle United reserves this season and Gerrard should seriously consider bringing him in.
The 19-year-old, whose idol is Gerrard’s former Liverpool colleague Fernando Torres [The Chronicle], is clearly far too good for the level he’s playing at the moment.
But by the same token, he’s nowhere near ready for Premier League football and Rafael Benitez – who managed the Rangers boss at Anfield – ought to loan him out in January.
The Spanish boss might prefer a loan to League One or the Championship, but that didn’t exactly work with Adam Armstrong.
Rangers sit top of the Premiership and could well be playing Europa League knockout football in the new year. A loan in Glasgow would be a much more beneficial experience for the young hitman and if Gerrard wants him, Benitez shouldn’t stand in his way.
