Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers should look at Alfredo Morelos’s old colleague.
One huge positive for Rangers this season has been the emergence of Alfredo Morelos. Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha picked him up for just £1 million from Finnish outfit HJK Helsinki and the Colombian has struck eight goals in 10 games for the Gers.
Unfortunately, another striker who arrived at Ibrox during the summer, Eduardo Herrera, isn’t going so well and Caixinha might well bring in another goalscorer when the transfer window re-opens in January.
If the Portugese manager is game then should he dig in the same dirt he unearthed Morelos and consider signing his former team-mate?
Akseli Pelvas is flourishing at HJK without the South American and has netted 19 goals in his last 30 starts. In the league, Pelvas has netted 12 goals in 2,149 minutes – Morelos had 16 goals in 2,409 minutes during the 2016 campaign.
Such a similar record cannot be ignored and you wonder whether Pelvas could have the same impact in the Scottish Premiership as his former colleague is having.
Crucially, Pelvas is 28 and turns 29 in February. Rangers wouldn’t have to necessarily worry about him jumping ship for another club if he hits the ground running, which is most certainly the case with Morelos.
The Ibrox club could get some good years out of him and his age would suggest that he wouldn’t get a bigger move to a bigger club.
According to Transfermarkt, Pelvas is also out of contract at the end of this calendar year so Caixinha could potentially pick him up for free.
