Should Rangers join chase and make loan bid for Manchester United striker?

Glasgow Rangers surely need to add to the number of striker options they currently have at Ibrox.

With Rangers’ start to the season contributing to the exit of Pedro Caixinha, it is safe to say that the January transfer window could be crucial to the Gers as the new manager – provided that they have the new man in place by then – looks to try and close the gap to the pace-setters in the Scottish Premiership.

It has been another underwhelming start to the campaign for the Light Blues, and their League Cup semi-final defeat arguably proved to be a real turning point in Caixinha’s tenure. January will be the first opportunity therefore, that the new man has to really stamp an impression on the team.

One area that Rangers surely need to strengthen is up front. Alfredo Morelos has been excellent since arriving in the summer, but Eduardo Herrera has been less convincing and Kenny Miller’s form during the early months was not the most convincing, leaving impressive academy starlet Ryan Hardie higher up the pecking order than he is perhaps ready to be at this stage.

But with January proving especially difficult to do substantial business, the new manager may have to be canny and look for the loan deals that will paper over the cracks somewhat.

One player perhaps worth considering is Manchester United’s James Wilson, who The Sun reports is attracting some attention from a couple of Championship clubs.

Wilson has not made a first-team appearance for over a year and is facing a massive task trying to break into the United side, so a loan exit in January would surely make sense for all parties.

Heading to the Scottish Premiership would give Wilson a fantastic chance to get some confidence back as he should have no problem getting the amount of chances he will need to take his game to the next level – and thus, Rangers should throw their hat into the ring and make a bid in the winter.

As things stand, Rangers cannot allow the next transfer window to pass them by without strengthening their options up front, and if they did decide to join the race for Wilson and managed to bring him to Ibrox on loan, it is arguably a deal that would have the potential to make a real difference to Rangers’ season, which is still waiting to ignite.
