Why didn’t Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers consider Marcus Tavernier, brother of James Tavernier, as Jamie Murphy’s replacement this season?

Rangers seem to be on the brink of signing Eros Grezda.
Gers boss Steven Gerrard told BBC Sport on Wednesday that a transfer is nearly complete, and that Rangers fans will love the 23-year-old winger, who will cost £2 million.
Presumably, Grezda is being signed as a replacement for Jamie Murphy, who suffered a season-ending injury away to Kilmarnock a little earlier this month.
Plenty of left-sided attackers were available, but should Rangers have gone for Marcus Tavernier?
According to TeamTalk, the 19-year-old flyer is attracting interest from a host of Championship clubs after falling out of favour under Middlesbrough boss Tony Pulis.
He is the younger brother of Ibrox star James Tavernier and getting him on a season-long loan, rather than spending £2 million on an unknown from Albania, might’ve been the better option.
Grezda might be very good, but it might not be a great long-term investment to spend so much money on a player who may be easily displaced by Murphy next summer. All of a sudden you have a squad player who is worth more than most of the squad, going by price tags.

Tavernier senior claimed earlier this month that he would like to play alongside his England-based brother at Rangers one day.
But with the younger Tavernier being available on loan, and the Ibrox outfit badly needing someone in his position, there’ll never be a better chance.
The youngster scored two goals in seven starts for the Riverside club last season.
