The Italian striker has been in fine form for Caglairi this season and a new striker is needed at Ibrox.

One thing Rangers have desperately lacked this season is a ruthless finisher in front of goal. They need a player like cult hero Marco Negri at the club, if they are to challenge Celtic again – that is the Negri prior to a squash injury.

He scored 32 league goals in his first season with Rangers before injuries ravaged his career at Ibrox.

But could the club bring in a brand new Negri this summer? There is a player in Italy now who bears remarkable similarities to the former Gers striker.

Marco Boriello is a player who deals in goals. The 34-year-old, who had an unsuccessful spell on loan at West Ham in 2014, is currently enjoying an Indian Summer to his career.

He has scored 18 goals in 30 games this season for Cagliari and Rangers would love to have that sort of Serie A firepower in the Scottish Premiership.

Boriello is out of contract in the summer and new Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha would surely love to have his influence in front of goal to help the Glasgow side.

Convincing him to switch home for Glasgow might be difficult, but the lure of playing at Ibrox can be a strong one for any player.
