Mark Warburton’s Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers need an attacker – and the Tottenham Hotspur man may fit the bill.

Tottenham Hotspur bowed out of the League Cup after losing 2-1 to Liverpool at Anfield last night.

It was a much-changed Tottenham XI which included a number of young talent, but Spurs fans may not see some of them again for the rest of the season.

Their elimination from that competition means that Mauricio Pochettino has less room in which to let youngsters showcase their talent. Their next potential game might not be until the third round of the FA Cup, and even then Pochettino may use his best team.

One Tottenham lad who looked particularly far away from making it in the first team was Joshua Onomah, who incurred the wrath of Spurs fans on Twitter for what was a disappointing showing from the 19-year-old.

He is certainly one man who could do with a loan spell, and Rangers boss Mark Warburton should be front of the queue come January.

The Rangers manager confirmed earlier this month that he has already held talks with unspecified “London clubs” in order to “maintain relationships”. Given that the 54-year-old has previously brought two Lilywhites to Ibrox – Nathan Oduwa and Dominic Ball – it could be argued that Tottenham were among the clubs he met with.

Onomah is an attacking midfielder who can also play on the wing, and the Gers are desperately lacking a figure who can set up chances for the stable of strikers that Warburton has at Ibrox.

A dearth in creativity was evident from Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Celtic at Hampden Park, and with Niko Kranjcar facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines, Rangers are going to need a playmaker – either from the wing or a number 10 role – if they want to have a decent season.

Competing with Celtic for the title seems unlikely, but it is far more unlikely if their marksmen are not scoring regularly, and they won’t without an increase in service. Only four teams in the Premiership have netted less than the Gers’ haul of 12 goals so far.

Onomah won’t single-handedly save Rangers’ season, but he does have the talent to play a big, big role in helping them have a better second half of the season than the first.
