Should new Glasgow Rangers boss Steven Gerrard tempt the big striker to Ibrox this summer?
Last weekend, Rangers fans on Twitter claimed that the newly-appointed Steven Gerrard should tempt Peter Crouch to Ibrox.
The 37-year-old striker was relegated with Stoke City this past weekend and fans of the Glasgow club reckon Gerrard should sign his former Liverpool team-mate, whose contract expires next summer.
It’s not at all a bad idea and maybe the new Rangers boss should consider bringing the big man to Glasgow.
According to The Daily Mail, Gerrard will be in the market for a “marquee striker” this summer. Crouch, who turns 38 in January, might not be exactly a box-office signing any longer, but he would undoubtedly improve the team.
The former England international has 107 Premier League goals in 461 outings and although he has slowed down in recent years, he is still more than capable of adding something to Rangers’ attack.
For now, Gerrard will inherit a squad that lacks a physical presence up front and the lack of plan-b option has arguably hindered the team under both Pedro Caixinha and Graeme Murty this season.
Standing at 6’7, Crouch would certainly give Rangers the height that they lack in attack. Speed has never been a major part of his game, so losing some of it due to the aging process wouldn’t be detrimental for his ability to score goals.
He is unlikely to have any offers to stay in the Premier League, so it could be a choice between the Championship with Stoke, or the Scottish Premiership with Gerrard at Rangers and few would blame him if he chose the latter.
