Should Rangers consider Michiel Kramer if Alfredo Morelos leaves?

Glasgow Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos has been linked with a move away from Ibrox.

While the January transfer window may have now closed, it appears that Rangers could still face some fairly tense weeks with BBC Sport reporting that Alfredo Morelos has been attracting attention from the Chinese Super League.

With the window in China not shutting for a little while yet, Graeme Murty may have to answer to a significant number of questions about the Colombian’s future in the coming days.

Of course, the Gers will desperately want to keep Morelos, especially as they will be unable to go out and sign a replacement from another club until the summer. But if the money reaches eye-watering levels, perhaps the Light Blues should think about cashing in on Morelos and making a move for a striker who was released by Feyenoord in the final hours of the January window.

Michiel Kramer is now a free agent, and he should perhaps be the kind of player that the Scottish Premiership side look to target if Morelos leaves this month. He certainly appears to be the best option right now.

The 29-year-old has spent his entire career to date in The Netherlands, and boasts a decent record in front of goal, scoring 18 times in 55 league games for Feyenoord before his release this month.

At 6ft 5in, Kramer would give Rangers’ attacking options a different dimension with Eduardo Herrera – who is a few inches smaller in height – currently the tallest first-team striker available to Murty.

Given that he does provide something different, it would arguably be a wise idea to move for Kramer while he is available regardless of what happens to Morelos, but given that Murty will surely have to use the free agent market if the striker leaves, putting him on the radar may make a lot of sense.

And if they do ultimately lose Morelos and replace him with Kramer on a free transfer, and the latter manages to contribute a decent amount of goals, then the deals could go down as particularly smart pieces of business indeed.
