Mark Warburton’s Glasgow Rangers side have struggled for goals in the Scottish Premiership.

Following Rangers’ goalless draw with Ross County on Saturday it is clear that Mark Warburton’s midfield needs to be contributing more goals. And while the January transfer window is still a long way away, he should arguably be looking at a player who has already made an impact at Ibrox this season as a possible solution to their struggles in front of goal.

Ali Crawford was part of the Hamilton side that faced the Light Blues in their first Scottish Premiership clash following their promotion last season.

And while last term’s success, coupled with their flawless record in the Scottish League Cup group-stages suggested that the Gers would have little problem securing the three points, it was Crawford’s performance that ensured that they would have to settle for a draw.

The 25-year-old – who made Joey Barton look foolish with a sublime nutmeg during the contest – opened the scoring with an exquisite finish where he demonstrated plenty of composure to turn the defender before unleashing a curling effort into the top corner that left Wes Foderingham with no chance.

It was not just against Rangers where Crawford has made an impact. His goal in Saturday’s 3-1 defeat to Hearts was his fourth in just nine games in all competitions, proving that he has plenty to offer going forward.

Though the midfielder would struggle to earn a regular spot in the team if he was to complete a move and would perhaps be more of a squad player, he would be an extremely useful option to have to bring on when the side needs a goal and has all of their strikers already on the field.

Playing alongside better players may help Crawford take his game to the next level, and judging by the form he is currently showing, that next level could certainly help the Gers put their difficult start behind them.
