The defender made 87 league and cup appearances for Celtic during his four-year spell with the Scottish champions, even scoring eight goals and helping the Bhoys win the Scottish Premier league in 2011-12.
Loovens finally left Celtic six years ago to join Real Zaragoza in Spain, but surely the Gers should consider a move to sign the former Celtic star by ignoring the rivalry to sign a defender that will add both experience and quality to their side.
Doubts remains over the future of Bruno Alves and Fabio Cardoso, while Russell Martin only remains on mloan and David Bates is set to join German Bundesliga side Hamburg at the end of his current contract.
Landing a central defender is paramount, and Loovens should be considered despite winning the Scottish Premiership with Celtic.
