Carlos Carvalhal is reportedly in a precarious position at Sheffield Wednesday, so perhaps Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers should keep an eye on his future.

According to a recent report from The Sun on Sunday (print edition; 10th December 2017; page 65), Sheffield Wednesday could consider sacking Carlos Carvalhal depending on how the Owls end up getting on when they face Championship leaders Wolves on Friday night.

With Wednesday languishing in mid-table and Nuno Espirito Santo’s men cruising, it would appear that Carvalhal is facing an uphill battle trying to keep his job if the club’s board have decided that Friday’s result will decide his fate.

While things have not gone to plan for the Portuguese this term, he has arguably done a very good job during his time at Hillsborough, and thus, one club should consider keeping an eye on what Carvalhal’s future holds as there is still some uncertainty about their own manager situation.

Rangers appeared to be closing in on their own boss last week but Derek McInnes’ decision to stay at Aberdeen led to the Gers giving Graeme Murty the job until the end of the calendar year at least.

Murty is currently doing well enough to arguably earn an even longer spell in charge of the side, but of course, the board may have no desire to give the current caretaker the job on a permanent basis and have simply given him a prolonged run to give them a bit of breathing space as they look for their next manager.

With Carvalhal under pressure right now, it would appear entirely possible that he could be seeking a new challenge by the time Murty’s tenure comes to an end – so perhaps the Gers should consider making a move if he is unfortunately dismissed by Wednesday.

The 52-year-old may be struggling right now, but he boasts one of the best win-rates in Sheffield Wednesday’s history and led them to the Championship play-offs two years in a row after slow starts – so he will perhaps argue that if he is given time, he can do it again this year.

After Pedro Caixinha’s tenure, Rangers fans may be cautious about the idea of appointing another Portuguese boss, but Carvalhal has arguably done a much better job at Wednesday than he has been given credit for – he has led the Owls to their two best finishes since Premier League relegation in 2000 – and Rangers should perhaps consider taking advantage if Wednesday decide to be ruthless and part company with him in the near future.
