Ross McCormack’s Aston Villa career looks over but could QPR hand him a chance for redemption?
With his buggy eyes and zany one-liners, Ian Holloway gives off the impression of being a rather mild-mannered fellow. However, that outer layer belies a fierce competitor and a man who doesn’t take too kindly to a lack of professionalism.
Therefore, Steve Bruce’s claims that Ross McCormack failed to attend training because his gates were stuck won’t exactly convince the QPR boss that the maligned Scotsman should be the man to solve his goalscoring problems.
However, beyond the initial concerns, a move could suit both parties rather well. West London Sport reports that the 30-year-old is keen on a return to London having scored for fun at Fulham so returning to the capital, albeit three miles north at Loftus Road, could help him thrive back in familiar surrounds.

Furthermore, Holloway has made clear that, despite QPR’s top scorer netting just six times all season, he doesn’t just want any old centre-forward in January. As reported by West London Sport, he wants an alternative option to the speedy Idrissa Sylla, ruling out a move for Bristol Rovers poacher Matty Taylor.

However, McCormack could fit the bill quite nicely. A modern ‘9 and a half’, the technically gifted forward combines clinical finishing, at least away from Villa Park, with excellent vision and the ability to drop deep and link play.
And, with Tjaronn Chery the latest player to be drawn by the allure of China, McCormack could slot perfectly into the vacant role behind the striker at Loftus Road. That’s if Holloway is willing to draw a line under ‘gate-gate’.
