The Tottenham Hotspur teenager is a fine prospect and he deserves one of the many chances Vincent Janssen has been given.
Tottenham Hotspur head into their FA Cup quarter-final clash with Millwall this weekend knowing they are one match away from Wembley.
As a result, they are likely to play a strong, if slightly changed, team against their League One opponents. However there could be a place up for grabs on the bench with Vincent Janssen about as far down the pecking order as a second-choice striker can be.
The Dutchman has been hugely disappointing since he arrived at White Hart Lane last summer, so what chance Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino giving his place on the bench to someone who actually deserves it?
With the likes of Shayon Harrison and Ryan Loft currently out on loan, 18-year-old Kazaiah Sterling could find himself bumped up the line for chances at Spurs, and given his brilliant form in the FA Youth Cup this season it would be fully deserved.
Sterling is the second-highest scorer in the competition with six goals to date, and he will have the chance to add to that when Tottenham’s next generation take on Chelsea in the semi-final, but before that it would be brilliant both for him and the fans if Pochettino called him into his match day squad.
After all, would he really do any worse than Janssen?
The answer is an emphatic no. Sterling needs the first-team exposure as he continues his development, while the Dutchman is surely already on borrowed time.
Tottenham may go strong against the Lions, yet that does not mean they should not use the competition to offer a teenage prospect or two some vital experience as they continue their own development.
Sometimes a place on the bench is the first step to stardom.
