Nir Bitton has struggled at Celtic this season, so should Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Paul Lambert look to sign him from his former club?
Celtic’s Nir Bitton in action with Rangers’ Andy Halliday
When Espanyol wanted to sign Nir Bitton from Celtic last summer, the Hoops told the La Liga outfit that they would need to pay £10 million to make a move happen (via Daily Record) following a season where the midfielder had been a talisman under Ronny Deila.
However, since then, Bitton’s career at Parkhead has arguably stagnated due to the blossoming partnership between Stuart Armstrong and Scott Brown in the middle of the park, and Bhoys boss Brendan Rodgers left the door open for the Israel international to potentially leave during the January transfer window (via Daily Record).
Following the 25-year-old’s display in Sunday’s clash with Rangers, it appears that Bitton may need a change of scenery after struggling to get into the game at Parkhead.
Bitton has shown during his time with the club however, that he can be an extremely impressive player and can do an excellent job in front of the back four, and it is for that reason that former Celtic star and current Wolves boss Paul Lambert should hand him the chance to rebuild his career.
If Wolves manage to preserve their Championship status, he may be an ideal target to help them next season put this year behind them and perhaps challenge for a top six spot in the division. They certainly have the resources to get to that level.
Wolves manager Paul Lambert
His presence in the team would allow the cluster of talented attacking players to concentrate on causing problems in the final third safe in the knowledge that he is behind them, providing the defence with additional support. And, of course, he is capable of contributing some goals also.
And it must not be forgotten that moving to Molineux would see him work under a manager who will know all about the demands of playing at Celtic, so he may perhaps be able to get the best out of him once again.
And given how his season has panned out personally, it may not be that great a surprise if Celtic are willing to let him move on for considerably less than the eight-figure sum the Hoops wanted last summer.
