Odsonne Edouard’s form for Scottish Premiership champions Celtic has been a little bit disappointing lately.

It was never going to be easy for Odsonne Edouard during his first season as a permanent member of the Celtic squad for a number of reasons, one of which is the fee that took him to Parkhead this summer.
It was not a return that jumps off the paper, but he did only make 13 starts for the Bhoys and it must not be forgotten that he was only born during the season in which Wim Jansen led Celtic to the title in his only year at Parkhead, so his potential was obviously one key reason why he was signed permanently.
And with Moussa Dembele leaving in the final hours of the transfer window, the pressure placed upon Edouard and Leigh Griffiths undoubtedly increased with Brendan Rodgers proving unable to get a new striker in.

It is therefore, impossible to judge the youngster too harshly based on his start to the season. Nevertheless, Rodgers should perhaps be a little concerned with his current run of form following the stalemate with St Mirren on Friday night.
Edouard was poor in the goalless draw and has now gone four games without a goal for the Bhoys. His tally for the campaign is not too bad, with four goals in nine, but his recent run is underwhelming, and the fans were extremely critical of his performance last week.

Edouard is clearly talented and has the quality to rediscover some much better form in the near future. But with Celtic spending £9 million, Rodgers should still be able to demand a lot more from the striker now.
There is no need to panic – Celtic should still be favourites for the title again this year even after falling five points back of Hearts – but Edouard now needs to show more signs that prove that the Hoops were absolutely right to break their transfer record this summer.
